Great to see this dead cherry tree today. We are a tidy nation and standing dead-wood is often removed. It's great for invertebrates though and it was no surprise to see both Green and Great-spotted Woodpeckers here as well. This tree was one of several in the old cherry orchard between Claypits and Goodnestone (open access).
I saw the picture of the dead cherry tree and similarly, in the field near Church Orchard I saw a dead tree with a woodpecker having a fun time tapping on a branch
