This is a Yellow Dung Fly (Scathophaga stercoraria) a common insect, that usually feeds on invertebrate prey. However, pollen is also an acceptable food, and there was plenty to be had from a patch of flowering Alexanders on the footpath to Crixhall Court today. There were at least 20 of these flies and a few bees on this patch.
