No prizes for the photo-iphone, distant and cropped. However, it was nice to find this Clouded Yellow butterfly a few days ago near the Miller Woodland Trust site in Chalkpit Lane. It paused briefly and then continued its rapid flight north-west. These are migrant butterflies from southern Europe that will breed here but generally cannot overwinter as it is too cold. Although it is recorded in the UK every year, numbers vary, with occasionally, tens of thousands reaching our shores.
