Lords and Ladies

Lords-and-ladies, also known as Cuckoo-pint (Arum maculatum). The pale green, leaf-like sheath surrounds the spadix, a spike of tiny flowers. Later in the year, this will become an upright stalk of bright red berries. The spadix releases a cow-pat like scent that attracts small flies for pollination. Lots of it in shady areas of the churchyard.
