Spring flowers under deciduous woodland are a delight but they appear and are gone in an instant. They are in a rush to complete their life-cycle, making use of the available light before the canopy leafs up. These Wood Anemones (Anemonoides nemorosa) spread very slowly by rhizomes. The more there are carpeting the woodland floor, the more ancient the wood is likely to be. These beautiful displays are brief but can be seen in woodland around Staple and Goodnestone now.
