Wall Brown

The first Wall Brown butterfly (Lasiommata megera) of the year in the churchyard. This species loves basking in the sunshine and walls and headstones are a favourite spot. The Wall Brown has made a welcome resurgence in recent years after a drastic decline in numbers. The churchyard provides the right habitat and food plants for this butterfly, so it's good to see it here.
