The damage on these Horse Chestnut leaves is caused by the larvae of the Horse Chestnut Leaf Miner (Cameraria ohridella), a tiny moth. It was first recorded in the UK in 2002 and has since spread dramatically. It probably arrived here from southern Europe in forestry products. This infestation was seen in the Miller Woodland Trust site near Hammill. Although it is unlikely to kill the tree, it can weaken the tree leaving it vulnerable to other problems.
